As many of you know we are currently facing a formula shortage here in the U.S. This is a cause of distress and anxiety for many families.

What can be done? Below are a few options for families seeking feeding support.

  • Formula Exchange (click the link)
  • Relactating
  • Local Donor Milk
  • Switching Formula Brands
  • Connecting with a Lactation Consultant for breastfeeding support

I’d like to highlight one of these solutions in particular, relactating. Relactating is reestablishing your milk supply after having stopped milk production. Pumping, Massage, and Galactagogues are key components to reestablishing your supply. Galactagogues are foods, herbs, or medication aimed at boosting milk production.

Vietnamese Grandmother feeding grandchild

In some countries, grandmother’s, sisters, and community members have been key in helping feed the babies in their community. I recall reading a beautiful article a few years back about a grandmother who relactated to help feed her grandchild and it warmed my heart to witness such a great act of love.

Community support and connection is going to be KEY to us navigating crisis. We’ve got to get back to deeply supporting one another on this journey called life.

If you are in need of lactation support, please connect with us at and click the link above for more information on the formula exchange.

In Gratitude, Jacquelyn
